History of The Old White Inn Would you believe that The Old White Inn was built on tips? In the early 1950’s, Russell Wease realized his entrepreneurial dream of building a three-star lodging property in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Wease worked as a bus-boy at The Greenbrier Resort. Without a car, he walked to and from work everyday…rain or shine. Through hard work and perseverance, he was promoted repeatedly until he became the manager of The Old White Lounge, located in The Greenbrier Hotel. Along with the money Wease saved from his gratuities, he borrowed $65,000 from Bowling’s Hardware Store, the local hardware store. A true gentleman, Wease maintained immaculate rooms, meticulous grounds, and provided impeccable service to such famous guests as Patsy Cline and Roy Rogers.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Wease enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout the Greenbrier Valley, located in beautiful state of West Virginia. As an avid golfer, Wease could be found on the greens every day of the week. While it is true that the Russel Wease has passed on and The Old White Inn has changed hands, the heart of the property, along with Weases’ vision and dedication to excellence, remains strong. We hope you enjoy your stay!
